A Valentine's Day Note
Every Valentine’s day my wife and I forget the exact date, and just stay open to what is happening around that time. This year it was going to see a cover band, and staying at a hotel in Portland, Oregon two days before Valentine’s day. We let go of expectations of romance, and making things just right. We just have a loose plan, and keep open for spontaneous things to occur, walking into a random Tiki bar, stopping a taco truck, buying some clove cigarettes for a joke, reminding us of our youth. We call this “flow,” and it’s a kind of magic. Walking home from the cover band, we ran into a balloon seller, and I bought my wife a flashy balloon, and it was so much more meaningful than if I had planned on buying it out of obligation for the date. I could say more about this, but over explaining is like over planning, and it can kill the vibe. Re post this if you know what I am talking about. Love, Mark
